Vojko Trošt for Ambasada Gavioli | March 2009 | English

1 What is your current preocupation, work in studio or spinning in clubs?

It's both but I think I spin in clubs in a similar way to how I work in the studio. I see spinning as a result of working in the studio but both allow completely different ideas to happen. I spend more time in the studio of course but it's also not the only thing I do with my time.

2 Which is your favuorite night in GB and abroad?

I don't think it's possible to say a favourite night. It's all about moments and atmosphere and I've had great moments at so many places.

3 Which is your favorite producer/ DJ of the moment?

I think like the last question it's hard to judge in that way. There are some talented people around but it's as much about moments and atmospheres. In terms of DJs I really enjoyed listening to Oscar Mulero recently in Croatia where we played together; it was so good to see someone being hands-on and creative with the sound and tools and not just squinting into the screen of a laptop.

4 How would you describe the current situation on the techno scene?

I think it's quite fragmented and that's both a healthy and a bad thing. Democracy and choice in music is a good thing. At the same time I think people's attention spans are so ridiculously short now, mainly because of the immediate way everyone lives, that it's hard to consider a solid scene anywhere.

5 What is the difference between techno music from 90' and today, from your point of view?

I think there is much less of a punk attitude.

6 Do you know and if you do, what do you think about slovenian electronic scene?

I don't know so much about the scene now so it's good to have a chance to catch up next weekend! I was quite involved in the scene there ten years ago and always remember Slovenia as the first place I played abroad and of course some happy memories from Ambasada Gavioli after that too.

7 What do you think dj-ing will be about in the future?

I hope it will be as it is now and before; a creative and inspiring process for the DJ and the audience. Technologically there are a lot of transient solutions appearing all the time; maybe more now than ever. In some ways I think this has reduced the raw creativity; things seem short-sighted and the technology isn't used to it's strengths or possibilities. I hope this will evolve in the future and control will become more and more creative, inventive and immediate. I think DJing will become more live and less reliant on pre-recorded music.

8 Do you like more festivals or clubbing?

I definitely prefer small clubs; it's so much more absorbing and for me a place to feel stronger emotional responses.

9 What will you show us musicallly in your set, or better what can we expect from you on Saturday?

I try always to play timeless tracks so it's nice to be part of Saturday's event and unleash some classics; hopefully some that hold special meaning for Slovenia and Ambasada too. I hope the roller-coaster ride will be a good one! I also use my own productions and musical ideas more and more to add to my sets so I hope to introduce as much of that as possible as well.

10 Can you describe us music released on your label, what sound are you concentrating on this days? past? future?

I've always tried not to follow the herd too much and that's always what I've concentrated on. I think I've always had a futuristic sound in the way I use sounds and explore technology. Now and in the future I simply aim to concentrate more and more on quality and diversity. I have an odd perspective anyway as I've heard all of my productions over the past twenty or so years but most people have heard only a fraction of everything.

11 Do you have any hobbies in your free time ?

In many ways music is healthiest to be treated as a hobby and stay where it should be as a creative passion; that's how I regard it - for the heart and brain, not the bank. I spend my time doing a whole lot of things. I just wish there was more time to do them and even more.
