-Hogyan kerültél kapcsolatba eloször a lemezjátszóval?

-Már évekkel azelott elkezdtem a zenék mixelésével kísérletezni, mielott a lemezjátszókat komolyan használtam volna. Szalagokat, felvételeket manipuláltam gitár-efektekkel, ilyesmikkel. Emlékszem, amikor még elég fiatal voltam, kivégeztem egy lemezjátszót, miközben megpróbáltam "megszerelni", hogy visszafelé játszon. Elkezdett füstölni, és beadta az unalmast. Ez egyfajta evulóció volt, ahogy a kezdetektol eljutottam oda, ahogy ma használom a lemezjátszót. Az én utam, ahogy eljutottam oda, hogy ma techno-t játszom, valahogy úgy kezdodött, hogy fiatalon, tinédzserként elektrót, indusztriális zenéket (ebm, ilyesmik..) toltam, kísérleteztem velük. De ha a kérdésre objektívan szeretnék válaszolni: két éves koromban kaptam az elso lemezjátszómat. Ez egy muanyag játék volt, muanyag lemezekkel. Ez volt az elso alkalom, hogy lemezjátszóval találkoztam.

-Több mint 100 megjelenésed van már, megosztanád velünk, hogy szerinted mi a különbség az elso és az utolsó között, illetve hogyan változott a stílusod az elmúlt években?

-Mostanában fejeztem be az összes régi szerzeményem digitalizálását, elég hosszú utazás volt ez, egészen 1985-ig visszanyúltam, amikor is még kazetta hegyek voltak a szobámban. Több 100 track, amelyet soha senki nem hallott, és ez csak egy töredék, ahhoz képest ami valójában megjelent. Érdekes volt hallani, mennyit változott a technika, mennyire kifinomult a zenék hangzása. Szintén érdekes volt felismerni, hogy a jobb produkció nem feltétlen jelent jobb ötleteket, hallottam néhány nagyszeru eltunt zenét közel húsz évvel ezelötrol! Azt hiszem nincs túl sok különbség a korábbi illetve az újabb zenéim között, ugyanis nem követem a divatot sem a trendeket, különösen igaz ez azt hiszem a Asymmetric projektemre. A múlttal ellentétben képes vagyok sokszínubb zenéket írni sokkal elektronikusabb illetve érzelemmel telítettebbeket. A stílusom talán sokkal kiforrottabb és biztosabb mint korábban.

-Hogyan jellemeznéd a saját stílusod?

-Azt hiszem, ahogyan fentebb kifejtettem, mindig megpróbálom a saját dolgaimat csinálni, amennyire csak lehetséges. Nem igazán vagyok érdekelt a hangmintákban, sokkal inkább foglalkoztat az összetétel, a technológia, új hangok felfedezése, kevésbé ismert eszközök és szoftverek használata illetve új dolgok elsajátítása. Sok idot szentelek tanulásra és olyan dolgok megértésére, amely mellett a legtöbb ember valószínuleg elsiklana. Számomra a folyamat ugyanolyan fontos, mint a végeredmény. A legtöbb zeném beleillik a Techno illetve az electronica mufajába.

-Mi a véleményed a szcénáról?

-Ez egy érdekes idoszak ismét. Rengeteg izgatottság és újdonság jellemzi és egyúttal hígulás és lustaság is. Olyan érzés mintha egy átmeneti idoszakban lennénk. Azt hiszem a hazai és a nemzetközi közti határ egyre jobban elmosódik, de ez mindig is lényegtelen volt a számomra. A bakelit hanyatlása és a digitális formátum elterjedése állandóan változtatja a szabályokat, de végeredményül tehetséges producerek és zenék vannak. Eltunnek, nehéz megtalálni oket, könnyu megtalálni, megint eltünnek... Sok az ellentmondás.

-Kik a kedvenc eloadóid a techno világában?

-Több van annak ellenére, hogy a produceri munkákat jobban figyelem, mint a nevüket. Teljesen izgatott leszek mikor találok egy viszonylag ismeretlen nevet, de kivételes produceri munkát és azt hiszem az embereknek is hasonlóan kellene vélekedniük. Nem a név a fontos...

-Melyiket részesíted elonyben és miért? Cd/bakelit/mp3...

-Minden technológiának megvannak a maga erosségei és gyengeségei, illetve mindhárom technológia ideiglenes megoldás - Hamarosan úgyis új dolgok jönnek. A különbségük az irányításban rejlik - számomra nem több mint hangminoség vagy hozzáférhetoség. Persze boldogan használom mindhármat, de mindegyik kicsit eltér a másiktól. Az ötletek, az energia, a környezet sokkal fontosabb, mint maga a forrás. Szeretem a CD-t, mert képes vagyok a saját zenéimet azonnal játszani. Szeretem a bakelitet, mert látványos és kézzel foghatóbb bárminél. Kiábrándító a digitális techonlógia lustasága ugyanakkor inspirál is ezzel egy idoben, mert néhány új ötlet bontakozik ki. Bizonyos fokig problémát jelent az, hogy a képesség, az adottság leértékelodik a technológia által, illetve más nyomásra. Viszont azt hiszem, hogy néhány igazán érdekes fejlemény jelent meg, és ez ismét ragyogtatni fogja a tehetséget.

-Mire számíthatunk toled Január 30-án?

-Remélem olyan zenére, ami kiszakítja az embereket a mindennapi életbol és egy kicsit más irányba tereli a gondolataikat, valami mást éreznek miközben táncolnak amennyit tudnak.

-Mit üzennél a techno szerelmeseinek?

-How did you get behind the turntable at the first time?

-I'd been experimenting with mixing music for years before I seriously started using turntables - I was manipulating tapes, records, using guitar effects, all sorts. I remember when I was quite young that I ended up destroying a record player by trying to play it backwards; it just started smoking and died. It really was just as an evolution of all this that I started to use turntables the way I do today. My route to playing techno started by playing electronic and industrial music (EBM, etc.) when I was a teenager but the story goes that I had my first turntable when I was age two; a toy one with plastic records so maybe that's what counts as getting behind a turntable for the first time!

-As you consider your almost hundred of releases, could you share the difference between the first and last release,and how your style changed during the years of becoming a careerist?

-I've recently finished a project to digitise all my old productions from a mountain of cassettes so I've been on a really long journey listening to music I've made since around 1985! There are hundreds and hundreds of tracks that nobody has ever heard and it's only a fraction that's been released among those 100 or so releases you mention so maybe I have a different perspective too. It's interesting to hear a clear evolution in the way I've produced music in that time - much better techniques and more and more exploration of sounds and synthesis for example. It's also interesting to realise that better production doesn't necessarily mean better musical ideas - I've listened to some great lost tracks from twenty years ago! I think I've always made a point of releasing music that's personal rather than fits into some fashion or trend so from that point of view there isn't so much difference to me between my first and most recent releases - there's an element of punk all the time. I think that more recently, especially with my Asymmetric|MP3 project, I've been able to release much more varied music than in the past - more electronic and emotional. I've definitely got more understanding of sound quality too. Maybe my style has just changed to be more certain and directed.

-How could you determine your own style?

-I think like I said above I've tried to do my own thing as much as possible. I'm not interested in following some pattern. I'm really interested in exploring sounds, synthesis, technology, ways of working, using less common hardware and software, learning to use things in my own ways, etc. I invest a lot of time in learning and understanding things that a lot of people probably go nowhere near. For me the process is just as important as the result although of course a lot of my music fits into holes like 'techno' or 'electronica' - that satisfies a lot of my needs in making music.

-How do you live with such a famous name in the world of techno?

-I don't think about it or even realise it if it's true. There's a lot more to my life than techno.

-What do you think about the domestic and international state of the music you stand for?

-It's an interesting time as always. There's a lot of excitement and innovation and at the same time a lot of dilution and laziness. The way music is accessed and distributed is changing so much - it feels like we're in a very transient time at the moment. I think the border between domestic and international is more and more blurred but that's always been fairly irrelevant to me. The demise of vinyl and the rise of digital music is constantly changing the rules but at the end of the day talented producers and fantastic music exists, is lost, is hard to find, is easy to find, is hidden in the strangest corners... There are a lot of contradictions.

-Who are your favourite artists of techno?

-I have a few although I tend to seek sounds more than names. I'm quite excited when I find relatively unfamiliar names but exceptional music and I think people should be encouraged to do the same.

-Which one do you propose, and why?(cd/vinyl/mp3)

-Every technology has its strengths and weakneses and *all* of these technologies are temporary solutions - there will be new ways just around the corner. What differentiates these things is their control - to me it's nothing to do with sound quality or accessibility. I happily use all those media and each in slightly different ways - the mixer, ideas, energy, environment is all much more important than the sources. I love the fact that CD allows me to play my own music quite easily and I use them more and more. I love the way I can interact with vinyl in a very tactile way. I love the opportunities to experiment and diversify that digital sources open up. I'm disappointed at the laziness that digital technology seems to have inspired but at the same time I'm really excited by some of the ideas that are evolving at the moment in terms of control. To some extent there is a problem that talent has been devalued by technology (and other pressures) but I think there are some really interesting developments appearing now that will let talent shine again.

-What could we expect from you for the 30th of January?

-I hope some music that makes people think and feel something as much as dance and switch off from everyday life.
